NEWS UPDATE: KD Healthy Foods Reports Severe Autumn Production Cut of IQF Spinach After Heavy Rain and Field Flooding

845

As one of the long-established suppliers of frozen vegetables, fruits, and mushrooms with nearly 30 years of experience, KD Healthy Foods is issuing an important industry update regarding the 2025 autumn IQF spinach season in China. Our company operates closely with multiple farming bases—including our own contracted farms—and this season has been significantly affected by unprecedented heavy rainfall and large-scale field flooding. As a result, the autumn spinach harvest has suffered a sharp production cut, influencing not only our raw-material intake but also the overall outlook of global IQF spinach supply.

Continuous Heavy Rainfall Causes Waterlogging and Harvest Losses

The autumn spinach season in northern China typically offers stable yields, supported by cool temperatures and predictable weather patterns. However, this year’s conditions have been dramatically different. Starting from early September, our planting regions were hit by prolonged heavy rains, followed by severe waterlogging in low-lying fields.

Across our own farms and cooperative planting bases, we observed:

Fields submerged for days, delaying harvest windows

Softened soil structure and root damage

Reduced leaf size, making mechanical or manual harvesting difficult

Increased decay and sorting losses during processing

Significant decline in usable raw material

In certain plots, the accumulated water remained so long that spinach growth was stunted or halted entirely. Even where harvesting was possible, the yield dropped notably compared with previous years. Some farms managed to harvest only 40–60% of their normal output, while others were forced to abandon substantial portions of their fields.

KD Healthy Foods Production Affected Despite Strong Agricultural Management

Over the past three decades, KD Healthy Foods has maintained a strong agricultural foundation, cultivating deep collaboration with farms that implement strict pesticide-control systems and advanced planting management. However, extreme weather remains a factor no agricultural operator can completely avoid.

Our on-site agricultural team monitored the fields closely throughout the rainfall events, implementing drainage measures where possible, but the sheer volume of water exceeded normal capacity. The result is a major reduction in the autumn availability of fresh spinach coming directly from our own farms and partner bases.

Consequently, the volume of raw material delivered to our processing facilities for IQF spinach production this autumn is significantly lower than expected. This has shortened the overall processing period and tightened our stock capacity for the season.

Global IQF Spinach Supply Facing Tightening Conditions

Given China’s role as one of the world’s primary origins for IQF spinach, any disruption in yield inevitably influences the global supply chain. Many buyers rely on autumn shipments to support their annual purchasing plans. With the reduced output this year, the industry is already seeing signs of:

Lower stock levels across exporters

Longer lead times for new orders

Reduced availability of large-volume contracts

Growing early inquiries from Europe, Middle East, and Asia

While the IQF spinach industry remains resilient, the 2025 autumn weather events highlight the increasing importance of seasonal planning and early booking.

Spring Season Already Planted to Stabilize Future Supply

Despite the challenges of the autumn harvest, KD Healthy Foods has already completed planting for the upcoming spring spinach season. Our agricultural teams have adjusted field layouts, improved drainage channels, and expanded planting coverage to help recover the shortfall created by autumn losses.

Current field conditions for spring planting are stable, and weather patterns in the growing regions are normalizing. If these conditions continue, we expect:

Improved raw-material supply

Higher leaf quality

Greater harvest consistency

Better capacity for fulfilling upcoming customer demand

We will continue to monitor crop development closely and share updates with our global partners.
